Ongoing research projects

Atmospheric science is working with a wide spectrum of issues focusing on our atmosphere and outer environment. We cover research areas from detailed studies of chemical processes of the atmosphere over influence on humans to stratospheric phenomena and processes.

The main focus of the atmospheric science group at the department of chemistry, Göteborg university is in chemistry with elements of physics where experts in the fields of physical, organic, inorganic, environmental and analytic chemistry act together with experts in environmental physics. Through development and use of advanced measurement techniques under laboratory conditions as well as under field conditions we strive for a better understanding of atmospheric processed and their influence on the environment.

Since atmospheric science is an interdisciplinary and wide subject we care for good contacts and cooperation with industry, authorities and research groups in other disciplines.

Examples of ongoing projects

  • Measurements of particle emissions and particle related substances from combustions sources, including traffic.
  • Analysis of organic substances in particles.
  • Chemical dynamics. Studies including molecular beams and their interaction with surfaces.
  • Reaction between ions and electrons.
  • Properties of particles and droplets and forces influencing them.
  • Determination of size distribution and properties of ultra fine particles (< 100 nm).
  • Kinetics and mechanisms for decomposition of organic substances.
  • Properties of excited states of atoms and clusters.
